In this week's #FarmBillFriday, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise praises various policies included in the House-passed 2018 Farm Bill and the positive impact they will have on farmers, ranchers and SNAP recipients.

We need to make sure that with a good farm bill that we’ve moved out of the House, that we’re able to continue allowing our farmers to produce so many great products and feed the world, be the bread basket of the world.

There’s something else really important in the farm bill that we do. We help people get back to work. As we’ve seen over the last few years, there’s been a dramatic increase in the number of people on SNAP. While our economy has now continued to grow, we’ve seen a ballooning over a 100 percent increase of people from 17 million people on SNAP to now over 40 million people.

What we need to do is make sure if there are jobs out there, which there are, for people, we ought to make sure that people are getting into the work force and so we put really good work requirements in place to help get people off of food stamps and get back into the work force so they can become a part of the American Dream.
