Washington, D.C. – Today, the House Agriculture Committee’s Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research Subcommittee held a hearing to review the state of Organic Agriculture from the perspective of producers. After the hearing, Subcommittee Ranking Member Neal Dunn (FL-2) and Committee Ranking Member K. Michael Conaway (TX-11) released the following remarks:
“At today’s hearing, we heard directly from farmers who have chosen to use the organic program to earn a premium on their products. Just like their conventional farming counterparts, organic farmers too are feeling the pressure from market instability and unpredictable weather. I am glad that the 2018 Farm Bill delivered many wins to the organic sector, and our team at USDA is doing a great job getting those updates in place,” said Subcommittee Ranking Member Dunn. “American farmers and ranchers have more tools at their disposal than ever before to meet a wide variety of consumer demands. The National Organic Program gives producers one more way to differentiate their products in the marketplace, and I appreciated hearing from a wide variety of producers today,” said Ranking Member Conaway. |
